On May 9, 2025, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) enacted a transformative regulation under Law No. 16 of 2005. This new framework strengthens Abu Dhabi’s ability to prevent and respond to environmental emergencies—ranging from industrial pollution to natural habitat degradation—by granting EAD immediate intervention authority.
This regulation marks a crucial step toward ensuring long-term ecological safety and sustainability for the region.

The Green Shield Initiative
To align with and support this vital regulation, Forestification UAE proudly launches the Green Shield Initiative — a people-powered response to environmental protection, resilience, and regeneration.
What is the Green Shield Initiative?
The Green Shield Initiative is a multi-phase environmental resilience program aimed at:
- Supporting Abu Dhabi’s emergency regulation by mobilizing grassroots efforts.
- Restoring vulnerable ecosystems before they reach critical degradation.
- Educating citizens, youth, and institutions on environmental risks and their role in emergency preparedness.
Focus Areas of Action
1. Emergency-Ready Forest Zones
We are mapping urban and semi-urban areas that are environmentally vulnerable and creating buffer zones using native trees and climate-resilient species. These “green shields” help absorb pollutants, stabilize soil, and act as living fortresses against environmental hazards.
- Focus: Industrial outskirts, water bodies, drylands prone to desertification.
- Method: Planting + monitoring using sensor-based forest health tools.
2. Community Environmental Response Training
Working with schools, municipalities, and community centers, we’re introducing:
- Eco-Emergency Drills for youth and civil society
- Training on early signs of soil, air, or water pollution
- Citizen reporting mechanisms to alert authorities quickly
- Curriculum-aligned environmental emergency awareness kits for schools
