GENERATION FOREST

Through our unique forestry approach, over time, a diverse forest will grow that will both sustain itself economically and replicate the natural rainforest as Amazone Forest. 

Our forest concept is based on the rainforest, which has proven itself to be particularly resistant for millions of years. The generation forest is a forest principle that was created to balance the requirements of people with the environment. 

Unlike in plantations, the concept is unique as the forest isn’t simply cleared. We plant a healthy mixture of different native tree varieties. Young and old trees are cultivated in a continuous canopy cover system: This diversity of tree species and canopy structure enables a positive impact on the forest and wildlife that inhabit the forest.

We plant permanent mixed forests consisting of native tree varieties on cleared areas. They are ideally suited to the local environment and can therefore grow optimally. Thereby, we produce forests that are not only environmentally but also financially beneficial. By replanting the next generation of trees early, after the first thinning, an ecosystem oriented on a rainforest with multiple canopy layers emerges. The generation forest remains intact even if individual trees are felled.

It is our goal to plant healthy and expansive forests. With generation forests, we are pursuing a robust forest management concept with secure earnings which transforms fallow pastures or previously monoculture plantations into diverse mixed forests. Our permanent reforestation makes a significant sustainable contribution to the fight against climate change.

Deforestation and the associated land-use transformation have contributed to approx. 20% of global greenhouse emissions. In contrast, our forests remove at least 14 tonnes of CO2 per year from the atmosphere and stores the carbon in trees. As a comparison: Purchasing three cooperative shares is just as impactful for the climate as deciding not to take an annual transatlantic flight.

The leaf canopies of our mixed forests protect the soil against sun, wind, and heavy rainfall. The trees also help to rebuild the soil's humus layer. Furthermore, our reforestation projects effectively stabilize the water balance for the local communities and help to counter acute water shortages. The forests act as a sponge and ensure that water doesn’t flow on the surface but instead is slowly filtered and enters the groundwater. Forests are the most important drinking water filter on our planet. In contrast to a plantation, our generation forests permanently absorb water. Providing a stable water balance for the local people.

We can help to strengthen our natural resilience to pandemics, especially zoonotic pathogens, if by working together to combat climate change, creating new habitats and connecting ecosystems. According to the “dilution effect”, the decline of habitats is a major factor that can make us more susceptible to the emergence of pandemics. Our reforestation projects and protection of rainforest help to strengthen the resilience of our natural ecosystems.

As a community, we already form part of the solution for a healthy world climate. And we want to achieve even more – to become a global community that enable sustainable changes our world.
